I’m gonna come clean. I’m a photographer and I tell stories with my pictures. It’s not always easy for me to accompany them with words. When I found out this month’s focus was life, well, that’s an easy area for me, since it’s what I do. At first glance, my work is about photography and teaching; but really, it’s about capturing life.
Dustpan and broom, click. Yellow balloon, swerves, pulls car over. Rusty screw, sets up tripod. Beautiful lilypads, nearly drowns in said pond attempting to get the shot.
I’m often asked about what inspires me. Everything. Mostly the simple everyday things in my life are automatically translated into a snapshot. I get a lot of raised eyebrows from people as they ask, ‘What are you taking a picture of…and why?’. That awareness in my daily life is what really keeps me shooting, connected to the world, and essentially alive. It is what led me to complete a 365 Project. My 365 became less about improving my artistry (which it did) and more about being aware of, capturing, and connecting with all of the small and magical moments that make up a life.
